Does Apple struggle to maintain iPhone with iPhone 7?

The first iPhone that Apple launched in 2007 was not merely a phone that dealt with your calls, texts, calendars or contacts. The first iPhone was more than a phone, indeed a smartphone. The first iPhone had multi-touch screen, a virtual keyboard right there on your screen, Wi-Fi, web, music and many more. Later there was an iPhone 3G in 2008, which was the most sold phone of the year.

The idea of reinventing the phone had already been popped up in the mind of Apple CEO Steve Jobs. As the time passed, Apple continued to grow and had a great competition with Symbian based Nokia’s phone.

In his address, Jobs said, "I have been looking forward to this for two and a half years", and that "today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone." Jobs introduced the iPhone as a combination of three devices: a "widescreen iPod with touch controls"; a "revolutionary mobile phone"; and a "breakthrough Internet communicator."

Indeed Apple did a great job with their smartphones. The first iPhone had a beautiful display with amazing software what Apple called it ‘iOS’. In 2006, Android, iOS and Windows Phone did not exist.

Symbian was the most popular smartphone OS in Europe during the middle to late 2000s. In early 2007, the iPhone became notable for its use of a large touchscreen for direct finger input as its main means of interaction, instead of a stylus, keyboard, or keypad typical for smartphones at the time.

As soon as Nokia abandoned Symbian and partnered with Microsoft, Android emerged as an open-source platform and Apple looked struggling with their words. In Q1 2007, Symbian was dominating the market with millions of Nokia’s devices out there. In 2007, Nokia sold almost 435.4531 million (37.8% market share), where Apple did a good job with 2.3 million sold iPhone. In 2011, Nokia defeated Apple and Samsung and dominated the market with 422.4783 million (23.8% market share). Apple sold 89.2632 million (5.0% market share) and occupied third place in the market.

From the very first generation to the latest, the iPhone design experienced changed but not too much. The design that was earlier showcased by Apple was indeed a beautiful design at that time. But I think the design is no more attractive, it’s sluggish and boring. Many iPhone users are not still happy with iPhone 7 design. The iPhone 7 or 7 plus gives almost the same feel as older versions of iPhone do.

A myth that is pretty much flourishing about Apple is still unknown to majority of the people. Does Apple bring the most innovative features in the smartphones? Whether my opinion matters or not, but I think Apple doesn’t.

3D touch, live photos, dual rear camera, personal digital assistant etc. are not the stuffs that are introduced by Apple. Nokia had been working on a real 3D touch smartphone earlier than Apple. It was a real 3D touch, not like Apple’s 3D touch.

With a few enhancements, the iPhone 7 is just a traditional iPhone. There is nothing exciting in iPhone 7 or 7 plus. Everything is quite similar to the previous versions of iPhone.

Personally I think, adding a dual rear camera or making home button does not make iPhone distinct from other devices. The iOS 10 is a huge update which brings many new features and fixes the issues that were found in previous version.
